Iran’s ‘Villa Residents’ competing in Nigerian Asian fest

The 4th edition of the Asian Film Festival in Nigeria has been hosting Iranian feature film ‘Villa Residents’ by Monir Qeydi.

The 4th edition of the Asian Film Festival in Nigeria has been hosting Iranian feature film ‘Villa Residents’ by Monir Qeydi.   

‘Villa Residents’, produced by Saeed Malekan, is currently in the running at the main competition section of the 2022 festival.

‘Villa Residents’ narrates the story of some Iranian soldiers who stayed at residential villas near the frontline waiting to see their loved ones at the time of Iraq-Iran war.  

Tannaz Tabatabaee, Ali Shadman, and Anahita Afshar bring to life the starring roles of the flick.

The film has the Best Supporting Actress award from the 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival, as well as the second prize of the Vitré Iranian Film Festival in its resume.

So far, ‘Villa Residents’ has been screened at Kerala International Film Festival in India, Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, Asian Film Festival in Spain, and also in the Bucharest Asian Film Festival in Romania.  

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by ambassadors of Iran, China, South Korea, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar, Bangladesh, and Palestine.

‘Villa Residents’ is competing with films from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Lebanon, and Syria.

On the sidelines of the festival, an exhibition featuring Iran’s handicrafts is underway.

The festival opened on Monday at Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and will run through November 25, 2022.
